Eighteen months after a savage review closed her first restaurant, Lagos-born pastry chef Ife Balogun bakes alone through the Paris nights on the Rue Cler — until a soaked stranger knocks on the glass at four in the morning and weeps over three puff-puffs. He says he translates menus; she says she will never compete again, and with the little bakery about to be sold, both of them are about to be proved wrong.
